Fuel Card Popularity Grows as Fleets Look to Control Costs
With the cost of fuel being so high, many companies are actively looking at ways of driving down costs.
A fleet of 100 cars can run up an annual fuel bill of more than £200,000 and one solution is to take greater control of costs through the provision of fuel cards.
But what are the real benefits of fuel cards? Phil Elms, National Sales Manager at Sandicliffe Motor Contracts explains.
"If you currently pay for business mileage using a fixed pence per mile, or reimburse your drivers via their expenses for the fuel they have purchased, you may be paying them too much.
“The consolidated reporting which comes with fuel cards will provide you with the true cost per mile so that you can potentially save on business travel costs by paying the real cost. Fuel cards can also be restricted to a single vehicle, which means there is no chance you may be paying for the occasional refill of a spouse’s car.
“You can also find out instantly where your fuel spend is going at any time with secure access to reports over the web, and this enables you to set fuel policies, monitor compliance, and pinpoint further ways to reduce costs – such as cutting down on unnecessary travel.
“Fuel can account for up to 25% of some companies’ total fleet expenditure, which is why we are seeing such an increase in demand for measures which will control these costs better.”
