New Code of Conduct for Vans

The FTA (Freight Transport Association) has launched a Van Excellence Code aimed at providing van operators with an agreed code of conduct to follow.

Already some of Britain’s largest van fleets including BT Fleet, DHL and Royal Mail have agreed to join.

Based upon the Government's own Van Best Practice programme, expectation is that by adopting the new FTA code van operators could be spared any sweeping legislation, such the introduction of tachographs for vans under 3.5 tonnes - a possibility that is being mooted at present.

The code is designed to provide mandatory and auditable parameters for van operators to work to in the areas of van fleet operation, driver behaviour, vehicle safety, maintenance and risk assessment methods.
