Are Your Drivers Eligible to be Driving At All?
Driving licences have come under increased scrutiny this month.
The Licence Bureau reported an instance where someone who had been banned for 16 years was driving on company business.
The unnamed driver received four, four-year driving bans in the space of 16 weeks from the courts to run concurrently. Two four-year bans for drink-driving were followed by two separate incidents of driving whilst disqualified and a number of other related offences such as supplying false details and driving without insurance.
In the same month, ACFO (The Association of Car Fleet Operators) launched its best practice guide to licence checking.
"Any major fleet operator who has not recently checked driving licences will almost certainly find someone who is either at risk of losing their licence, should not be driving, or does not hold the correct licence category for the vehicle they are driving," said Phil Elms, National Sales Manager at Sandicliffe Motor Contracts.
"This places the company on very thin ice legally if that driver has a blameworthy accident which causes injury.
" If you have not checked driving licences recently, I would urge you to make it a priority. To do this quickly and efficiently we are able to offer an online service direct to the DVLA, which avoids checking printed licences manually."
