Driver Training Online? Is That Really Possible?
At Sandicliffe Motor Contracts we’re always looking to help our customers reduce costs.
But when we mention that we can offer online driver training for just £30 per course, compared to approx £320 for an on road training day we find it’s viewed with a degree of scepticism. The main question being, “But does it work?”
According to John Phenix, Sandicliffe Motor Contacts’ Operations Manager it’s important to look first at what an on road course offers before you can draw comparisons to the online version.
“Defensive driver training isn’t about teaching people to drive”, said John. “Anyone who’s been out in a vehicle with a trainer will tell you that it’s all about developing new skills and changing attitudes – not about how to hold the steering wheel and put your handbrake on at a stop sign.
“And because its about developing better attitude, knowledge, observation and concentration skills, hazard perception techniques and a whole host of other tactics to reduce the causes of accidents and improve safe driving, this can be carried out very effectively using a web-based course.
“All I would say to the sceptics out there is that if you are paying for on-road driver training you are potentially spending 90% more than you need to.”
From research conducted last year by an Insurance company who uses the systems, on average across a selection of fleets the accident frequency went from 29.5% to 9.8% (i.e. 20% reduction) after online driver training. Further data also shows an 8% saving on fuel.
To see the benefits for yourself, why not have a go? The course is highly interactive and we would be delighted to offer any fleet operator a free trial.
